Hello, my name is Lynae Ormsby and I am the coach/instructor of the UC Davis Dressage Team. I am honored and thrilled to be a part of this opportunity for college students to either begin or continue their dressage education. I would like to introduce myself and tell you about my experiences with horses. Believe it or not, it began right here at UC Davis! I graduated from the university in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science, minor in Reproductive Physiology. The first three years I was a member of the gymnastics team, earning a spot (barely) on the team that won Nationals two years in a row. My senior year I had an injury that kept me from competing, so I made my way out the the Equestrian Center and asked about lessons.
30 years later, I am still teaching and training horses! I evented over 25 years, up to the Intermediate level, always with a love of the dressage phase. I spent several years coaching Pony Club when my twin daughters were young, and created a few musical freestyles. My Quadrille team of ponies won many awards and accolades, leaving the kids with great memories! In 2006 I purchased a client's beautiful mare that was showing talent in the dressage arena. She graciously carried me through my Bronze and Silver Medal awards, and then enjoyed her new job as a schoolmaster for several years. I was devastated when I lost her to laminitis in 2016, but I now have a talented young mare that I will be bringing up through the levels! In 2017, I was awarded Coach of the Year at the IDA National Championships.
My favorite thing about dressage is that it can benefit ANY horse and ANY rider, no matter what discipline you choose to pursue. It creates a supple, balanced, strong horse, and improves communication between horse and rider. I like to incorporate my jumping experience into the lessons as well, using trot poles to improve hind end strength and expressiveness. I also occasionally give jumping lessons for those who request them. Homework assignments are designed to help in the lessons by implementing timeless techniques as well as improving dressage vocabulary. I love teaching and sharing my passion for dressage and am looking forward to meeting you! - Lynae Ormsby firstname.lastname@example.org
